About Me

Hi! My name is Becca and I'm the owner of Floss Candy. I've been creating and making from a young age; from pinching printer paper to draw my own made up Pokémon Cards to creating small hotels from Easter Egg boxes. Everything changed when my parents bought me my first sewing machine. I remember making my first project; a satin bow to attach to a dress I'd made for textiles class. I then went on to specialise in Fashion and Textiles in college.

I started selling on Etsy under the shop name Floss Candy back in 2016, I mainly sold handmade Cross Stitch accessories such as Grime Guards and Needle Minders. I dreamed of turning my spare room business into a lifestyle but it wasn't meant to be. I was very naïve about what it would take to run a real business, however thanks to the many lessons learned I am where I am now.

I've always loved the act of creating - using your own hands to make something totally unique. I've always been into unusual and alternative things (I'm still heavily influenced by Japanese Street Fashion) and when I was younger, getting hold of these items was a lot harder than it is today. I was able recreate the things I saw online from oceans away.

I've become a multi crafter; quilting, dressmaking, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning, polymer clay sculpting - I'm always on the look out for a new craft to try! However, I've found that fabric is universal and adapts to many projects. It is a flat palate that can be transformed into many styles. There's just something so visually and aesthetically pleasing seeing a whole collection of fabrics together as well!

Floss Candy as you know it today, launched on December 28th 2020. My goal is to inspire other crafters with a carefully curated collection of prints and designs. I just love spending hours picking out fabrics, unpacking them and taking photos. Then I get to prepare them to go to their new homes, while imagining what they'll be made into. I'm early into this journey and I can't wait for what the future holds!
