PHEW! I have to say the Christmas Holidays were something of a blur. Two days before Christmas, my partner and I came down with the Flu! It was that horrible one with headaches and chills. Which of course meant Christmas was a bust, but we made the most of it :) Then, in early January it was my Birthday and we had tickets to see the stage version of My Neighbour Totoro in London…our plans were nearly scuppered due to the train strikes. However, we managed to drive across the center of London to make it to our destination - we saw all the tourist sites on our travels. The show was incredible, I’ve been a big fan of Studio Ghibli since I was a child. Now we're past that busy period, it's great to get back to the shop and welcome a new fabric collection - Petunia by Kimberly Kight For Ruby Star Society.

Petunia - perfect florals for spring quilting

When designing Petunia, Kim was inspired by a trip to the International Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe. She gravitated towards the simple, honest, folky shapes of papercut art, and created a collection that has a similar earthy cottage vibe. The colour palette is light and fresh like a sunny day. Kim envisioned the Gingham print being fun to cut in in lots of different ways - I see it as a cute binding! 100% Premium Quilting Cotton, made in Japan. Explore the collection here.

I just love the prints in Petunia, they're the perfect prints for spring - also the colours, bright pinks & mustards. They also coordinate with other Ruby Star Society collections as well!

I can't wait to see what you make in Petunia! If you post photos, be sure to tag me - I'm @flosscandyshop on most social platforms.

As mentioned above, Petunia features three Gingham prints which I think are perfect for making quilting binding - or would even look great as a quilt backing! The Petunia collection is a fantastic mix of prints & mixers making it perfect for all sorts of projects.

Petunia Precuts

Fat Quarter? Charm Pack? Jelly Roll? What does it all mean?! Whether you’re a beginner Quilter or a seasoned pro, pre-cut names can be confusing. You might be asking what EVEN is a Pre-cut??

A pre-cut is the name given to a bundle of fabric that has been cut to a uniform size and sold together, simply put it is quilting fabric that has been cut for you. They come in a variety of sizes, including Fat Quarters, Fat Eighths, Jelly Roll/Design Rolls, Layer Cakes, Charm Packs & Mini Charm packs. They normally contain fabrics from one designer collection meaning the fabrics coordinate together. You also might be asking why you would want the fabric cut for you? Well, they can be a huge time saver! Say, a quilt is using lots of 5” square blocks. Instead of having to cut them all (and be accurate!), you could just use a Charm Pack! They’re also super beginner-friendly. These Petunia precuts are just perfect for your projects!

if you’d like to purchase a long quarter (25x110cm) in instead of a fat quarter please leave a comment when checking out, or send an email to becca@flosscandy.co.uk with your order number and let me know. Unfortunately, once your order is processed this can’t be changed.
