Even the colours of Reading Nook are cosy!

Books, Teas & Kitties

Last Bank Holiday weekend my partner and I popped down to the coast, I wanted to dip my toes in the sea :) We decided on Westbay, which is on The Jurassic Coast. He was working nearby so it was only another half an hour down the road.

Every evening, I love making my favorite tea (Yorkshire Biscuit Brew if you're wondering) and cuddling up with a book (I'm currently reading The Whispering Skull by Jonathon Stroud, a Young Adult Fantasy/Horror). I'm an avid reader so when I saw The Reading Nook Fabric collection by Ruby Star Society, I knew it would be just perfect for the shop!

I can just imagine many book & tea-related projects made in this collection, such as book covers and toe bags, tea cosies etc.

I can't wait to see what you make in Reading Nook! If you post photos, be sure to tag me - I'm @flosscandyshop on most social platforms.

Reading Nook Precuts

Fat Quarter? Charm Pack? Jelly Roll? What does it all mean?! Whether you’re a beginner Quilter or a seasoned pro, pre-cut names can be confusing. You might be asking what EVEN is a Pre-cut??

A pre-cut is the name given to a bundle of fabric that has been cut to a uniform size and sold together, simply put it is quilting fabric that has been cut for you. They come in a variety of sizes, including Fat Quarters, Fat Eighths, Jelly Roll/Design Rolls, Layer Cakes, Charm Packs & Mini Charm packs. They normally contain fabrics from one designer collection meaning the fabrics coordinate together. You also might be asking why you would want the fabric cut for you? Well, they can be a huge time saver! Say, a quilt is using lots of 5” square blocks. Instead of having to cut them all (and be accurate!), you could just use a Charm Pack! They’re also super beginner-friendly.

Reading Nook By The 1/4 Metre

As usual, I have fabrics from The Reading Nook collection available to purchase by the quarter metre.

All fabrics, unless otherwise stated are 110cm wide and 100% cotton. Fabrics are sold in quarter metre (25cm) increments and the first quarter being a fat quarter. Each quantity of “1” is a quarter metre and fabric is will be cut in one continuous piece.

if you’d like to purchase a long quarter (25x110cm) in instead of a fat quarter please leave a comment when checking out, or send an email to becca@flosscandy.co.uk with your order number and let me know. Unfortunately, once your order is processed this can’t be changed.

Moon Cake Quilt Pattern by Ruby Star Society

The Moon Cake Quilt Pattern is another free quilt pattern from Moda. It was originally designed for the Moonglow collection, but it's perfect for Reading Nook as the pattern uses just one Layer Cake to make the front! This quilt finishes at 54 x 54" and is constructed using Half Square Triangles using the “8 At A Time” method, making it quick and easy to create.

A closer look at some of prints from Reading Nook

I'm personally planning to grab a Reading Nook Jelly One once they're in stock and make myself another Adventureland Quilt (designed by Suzy Quilts!) I made one in The Firefly Collection and it came out amazing! To make a throw-size Adventureland Quilt you just need a Jelly Roll and 1m of fabric for the background. I think I'm going to use Heirloom In Berry as I just love the dreamy pinks and blues! I'm looking forward to picking out my other favourite Reading Nook prints for the binding and backing.
